This post has a look on the evolution of the price trend and available items of The Brothers’s War (BRO) on cardmarket from prerelease onwards. The set has been released on November, 18th and data has been tracked since.
In the graphs that follow, the 2 vertical dashed black lines represent the prerelease and release dates of the set. Unless otherwise mentioned, data concern the regular art, nonfoil versions of the card as obtained from Cardmarket.
Kicking of with some booster box characteristics, followed by some information about the singles.
Booster box characteristics
The Brothers’ War comes with 4 different types of booster boxes. Containing either the draft boosters, collector boosters, set boosters or jumpstart boosters. Sadly not all booster packs are equal in the sense that they contain different cards. For the full breakdown of these products you can always look at the original WOTC post “What’s inside the Brothers’ War boosters“. Noteworthy are the Retro Artifacts, Schematic Artifacts, Serialized cards and the Transformers cards that come with this set.
Hereafter you can see the price evolution for these boxes.
The Brothers’ War – Singles
Next, we’ll have a look at the price evolution of the regular art cards for The Brothers’ War. This chapter gives a general idea of the available items and the price trend for the different rarities, followed by some specific mythic and rares.
Broad strokes
Like mentioned above, these “broad stroke” images give a quick idea about how the available items have been evolving for the different rarities in BRO. As usual there is a ramp up of available items after release weekend. For mythics, we max out at around 2000 copies for mythic, whereas for commons the market is flooded with over 4000 copies of a single card and prices below 0.20 euro.
Mythic
Here we have a closer look at some individual cards: the 3 meld cards and some other noteworthy mythics that came with BRO.
3 Meld Cards
“Mishra, Claimed by Gix”, “Urza, Lord Protector” and “Titania, Voice of Gaea” were symbolic to this set. Both brothers, Mishra and Urza, saw peek prices around mid-december, nevertheless, the price has been on the decline since. The idea of putting a big planeswalker into play migh have been enticing, but seems to become not much more then a pipe dream…
Cityscape Leveler
Cityscape Leveler has been picked up the last couple of days and we might expect it’s price trend to start rising along with it. The leveler seems to have found a house as a sideboard card in Pioneer’s Mono-Green Devotion, which does pretty well in pioneer these days.
Portal to Phyrexia
Portal to Phyrexia is another standout card from BRO. It didn’t take long after release weekend for this card to spike in price. Since then it’s price declined somewhat, but with a rather stable amount of available items, we could see it holding at this price for some time now.
Filling the rare slot
3 Meld Cards
Well, when referencing the mythic parts of the meld pairs, it goes withouts saying that the rare parts should be mentioned as well. The amount of available items remain on the lower end for rare cards in this set, nevertheless, they are still availabe in abundance for them not to explode in price.
Diabolic Intent
A reprinted tutor card which sees regular play in commander. The price did not yet stop from going down…
Misery’s Shadow
Misery’s Shadow sees play in standard’s mono-black and as a 2-off in pioneer’s rakdos midrange. The latter being still the deck to beat in it’s format. Nevertheless, the trend price still stays at a moderate 2 euro and even declining somewhat.
Brotherhood’s End
Brotherhood’s End is a card that can be found in standard’s Grixis Control in the maindeck and found it’s way in the sideboard of other formats like pioneer, modern and legacy. We might see this one going up just a little more. Nevertheless, the amount of available items is on the rise again.
Runaway uncommon Third Path Iconoclast
Third Path Iconoclast takes the place of the most expensive uncommon. I don’t expect this one to be the next Expressive Iteration though…
BRR – Retro artifacts and schematic artifacts
Broad strokes
I suppose looking at the “broadstroake”-kind of graphs for both retro artifacts and schematic artifacts, most conclusions can be readily made from the graphs below. For each rarity, we notice 2 “bands” in the the available items, the most available items have been found to be the retro artifacts. Rough ball-park estimate, these appear to be about 2.5 times more available then their schematic artifacts versions. This also translates in a price trend of the schematic artifact version to be (slightly) more expensive then the retro artifact equivalent.
I’m not capturing any data for the serialized versions of these artifact cards, it goes without saying that these go for a much higher premium. Please let me know in the comments below, if there would be any interest in the price being tracked and turned into some graphs later on…
Mox Amber
Originally printed in Dominaria and finding its way in a lot of commander decks, Mox Amber had become a chase mythic. This reprinted version turns out to be the most valuable artifact in BRR. The retro artifact version has corrected itself somewhat to it’s release price, the schematic artifact version will probably no longer correct to the release price. Overall, we do see that the available items are on a slight decline again.
If you would be interested in a serialized version of the Mox Amber, I can direct you to its Cardmarket site. Today, 26/12/2022, you can pick one up for the meager price of 1400 euros.
Transformer cards
Sadly, no data available for these transformer cards, but couldn’t resist to shout out my childhood favourite!
I just think these cards are cool… …and they can be picked up cheap… !
Thanks for sharing 😉
That was it for the price trend and supply evolutions from The Brothers’s War, from release weekend up to today. Feel free to request some additional graphs of cards you feel are missing.
I’m looking forward to understand how price trend and available items will evolve for the next set, “Phyrexia: All Will Be One”, given WOTC’s announcement that cards will be legal as from prerelease and no longer from release onwards. Theoretically, we could see a slight increase in demand between prerelease and release weekend leading to somewhat lower available items and a bit higher prices, but, overall, I’m expecting that market dynamics on singles will not be impact that much…
And, to conclude:
Don’t hesitate to put your remarks and/or requests in the comments hereafter!
