We are now 1 week into “Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty” and I wanted to have a look at what the volumes and prices currently are on Cardmarket. The channel lands have been widely talked about and more specifically, “Boseiju, Who Endures” has been hyped enormously. So he’ll have a dedicated section in what follows! Product is still being opened and I don’t believe the meta has already settled, so we might still see some winners showing up in the next coming week(s).
Current states for the nonfoil regular art
The following figures provide a general view on the amount of available items we currently have on Cardmarket and I like to have a look at them just to identify where we are in the cycle after the box opening mania after release and to spot some runaway trends.
We’ll now zoom in on some more noteworthy cards…
The Wandering Emperor
The Wandering Emperor has already been expected to be a pretty good card and seen play in quite some standard decks. It is somewhat to early to tell if there is a big demand for this card at this moment given the amount of available items doesn’t seem to show a clear direction… The Price Trend on the other hand seems to be slightly increasing…
Channel lands
The channel lands have had quite the buzz as well… And apart from the green channel land, which will be discussed later on, most of them are in a race to the bottom. Nevertheless, Otawara, seems to be a card to have a look out for, given it’s supply decrease of about 500 items in the last couple of days. It’s price is stabilizing, and might even start rising in the next couple of days. Cardmarket has the card featured as best seller today, february 27th, as well.
And last but not least, with a more elaborate evaluation…
Boseiju, Who Endures
Regular art
“Boseiju, Who Endures” has arguably been one of the most discussed and hyped cards for this set given it’s high initial price point for a card printed at rare rarity and it’s playability in most formats.
Some think this card will only go lower in price as the set is more opened and drafted. While others believe the card is at it’s bottom price and will only go up.
For what it’s worth, I prefer to look at the numbers. The figures below, show respectively the nonfoil and foil version of the regular art. From these figures, we learn that the supply of available items has doubled to about 2000 and the supply of nonfoil items has more then doubled since the release date. Price trend has shown a decrease in line with the supply increase. I would be inclined to say that, today, the short-term price trend has not bottomed out yet. Closely monitoring how the number of available items evolves over time will certainly give a better indication whether we might expect a rising or further declining price trend in the mid- to long-term.
Alternate art – Borderless
The alternate art cards typically are sold at a premium w.r.t. the regular art cards. For Boseiju of course, we shouldn’t expect any difference. But how much would this premium actually be? Well, since the regular nonfoil art has a Price Trend of 29.26 euro and the Borderless has a Price Trend of 39.27 (for 1925 and 692 items respectively), the borderless art comes at a premium of 34% more w.r.t. the regular art.
Alternate art – Extended
These extended art cards are only opened through collector boosters, and are visibly less available then the regular art and the borderless art cards. At a Price Trend for the nonfoil version of 36.83 euro (387 available items), these will only cost you 26% more then the regular art.
Runaway Uncommon – Secluded Courtyard
Always fun to see an uncommon can go over 1 euro and still be trending upwards. However, we’ll probably see the price dropping again as more product is opened. Don’t hold your breath for this to be the next Expressive Iteration…
Ukiyo-e lands
To no surprise, the Ukiyo-e lands have been very popular. These basic lands have a price trend of over 0.5 euros and are still on the rise. With a swamp leading the charge with a price trend to 1 euro!
